Allotment
So, Stu's in shock. He mentioned last week that he was thinking of getting an allotment. The received wisdom is that they have long waiting lists, offer the prospect of weeks of back-breaking work to get a few miss-shaped, dirty vegetables with black bits on them.
(Where did that come from? -ed). Anyway, it all happened so fast, and the next thing we know, we were signing on the dotted line for an allotment about a mile from our house.
Half an allotment, sorry, I must qualify. Still, it's the size that has Stu worried.
It isn't exactly a blank canvas, there are blackberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and a rhubarb. What looks like Jerusalem artichokes and a lot of weeds, but nothing pernicious looking. It was actually snowing when we were viewing it so I can't promise to have taken too much in.
The best part is that there was a lone stalk of purple sprouting brocoli, so we took it home for tea - our first harvest!
Anyway we're heading over there tomorrow for the first time proper. Pictures to follow.
